Kolmir is developing ultrasonic, contact-less filters for separation of suspended and colloidal particles from aqueous streams, with optimal employment of treatment chemicals for oxidation, coagulation, flocculation and disinfection. Applications include tertiary treatment of municipal waste-water, pre-treatment of potable surface water, pre-treatment of feed to desalination processes and treatment of various industrial wastewater streams prior to disposal or recovery.

Technology

Kolmir’s process enables the coagulation, flocculation, gravitational sedimentation and removal of hard-to-settle suspended (including colloidal) particles from aqueous mixtures, with very limited use of treatment chemicals. An ultrasonic generator connected to a screen immersed in a specially-designed, small foot-print separator (clarifier) generates ultrasonic waves. Energy released from the waves activate the dissolved oxygen in the water to form free radicals, thus promoting rapid and effective coagulation and flocculation of suspended particles, which settle by gravitational sedimentation as sludge. In addition, due to the formation of free radicals with high oxidation potential, treated streams are also disinfected.
